《宇宙と生命の神秘》

「私たちの体は星と同じ材料でできている」—カール・セーガン（1934〜1996）のこの言葉は、私たちの存在が宇宙の歴史と深く結びついていることを教えてくれます。私は天体写真にインスピレーションを得て、宇宙のガスや星雲のイメージと人を融合させた水中写真を製作しています。私の写真表現は、水中で捉えた人の姿と、泡やミストが織りなす幻想的な模様で、宇宙の広大さや生命の神秘を視覚化する試みです。
私の作品は、「生命の誕生確率は、まるでプールにバラバラの時計の部品を投げ込んで、それが偶然に組み上がるようなものだ」という比喩に着想を得ています。この比喩が示すように、生命の誕生は極めて低い確率で起こる奇跡です。私はその奇跡性を、水中で生まれる一瞬の美しさに重ねています。水中で人やミストを複雑にかき混ぜることで、思いもよらない動きや形が現れます。その中で、人の姿と偶然交差する瞬間を写真に収めることで、「生命が今この瞬間も、宇宙のどこかで誕生しているかもしれない」という神秘を表現しています。
私の作品は、パールの輝きを持つ用紙に印刷され、厚みのあるアクリルに封入されます。この展示方法は、宇宙の広大さや大気の層による光の屈折がもたらす「ゆらぎ」を視覚的に映し出す重要な要素です。パール紙の繊細な輝きは星々のきらめきを思わせ、アクリル層が光を屈折させることで、作品に奥行きと神秘性が加わります。
私の作品を通して、見る人それぞれが、自分自身の存在と宇宙のつながりに思いを馳せていただけたら幸いです。

“The Mystery of the Universe and Life”

“We are made of star stuff.” — This quote by Carl Sagan (1934–1996) reminds us that our very existence is deeply intertwined with the history of the universe. Inspired by astrophotography, I create underwater photographs that fuse the imagery of cosmic gases and nebulae with the human form. Through figures captured underwater and the ethereal patterns formed by bubbles and mist, my photographic expression seeks to visualize the vastness of the cosmos and the mystery of life.
My work is inspired by the metaphor: “The probability of life emerging is like throwing the parts of a watch into a swimming pool and expecting them to assemble themselves by chance.” As this analogy suggests, the birth of life is a miracle that arises from incredibly low odds. I reflect that miraculous nature in the transient beauty that appears underwater. When people and mist are stirred together in complex ways, unexpected shapes and movements arise. By capturing the moments when these elements intersect with the human form, I aim to express the mystery that life may still be emerging somewhere in the universe at this very moment.
My photographs are printed on pearl-finished paper and encased in thick acrylic. This presentation is essential for visually expressing the “fluctuations” created by the vastness of the universe and the refraction of light through atmospheric layers. The delicate shimmer of the pearl paper evokes the sparkle of stars, while the acrylic layers bend the light to add depth and a sense of mystery to the work.
Through my artwork, I hope each viewer is inspired to reflect on their own existence and its connection to the cosmos.
